Calling all School of Law students and members of leaders in the Columbus legal field:
Protection of the Vulnerable: Making Global Justice Systems Work for the Poor
Featuring Holly Burkhalter, Vice President for Government Relations of International Justice Mission
Tuesday, April 20th, Noon-1:30PM at Saxbe Auditorium
As a part of the week-long “Price of Life Invitational,” this special engagement with Holy Burkhalter will be hosted by the Ohio State chapter of the International Justice Mission. Through examples of IJM’s casework in the field, Ms. Burkhalter will demonstrate the importance of focusing on the public justice system in an effort to secure structural transformation to promote justice for victims of slavery and sexual violence in the long-term. Holly Burkhalter is the Vice President for Government Relations of International Justice Mission, a U.S.-based human rights organization that provides legal services in fourteen overseas offices to victims of human rights violations and works to make public justice systems accessible to the poor. Prior to joining IJM, Ms. Burkhalter was for nine years the U.S. Policy Director of Physicians for Human Rights, a Boston-based human rights organization specializing in medical, scientific and forensic investigations of violations of internationally recognized human rights.
