Abolitionist Plunge Schedule (Tentative)

Every day (or almost every day) will also include free time, worship, prayer, Bible study and reflection time, as well as meals, and travel to and from host homes.

Saturday, March 10th – THEME: OVERVIEW / MAKING CONNECTIONS

  • 1 PM – arrive at host church
  • welcome, orientation, Human Trafficking 101
  • flyering at the bus station

Sunday, March 11th THEMES: EXPERIENCES OF VICTIMS; WHERE IS GOD?

  • how can a church do the work of justice? & Vineyard Columbus church service
  • panel of survivors
  • film screening “The Dark Side of Chocolate”
  • concert of prayer

Monday, March 12th THEMES: LAWS AND LAW ENFORCEMENT; EXAMPLES OF STUDENT ACTIVISM

  • trafficking laws and law enforcement
  • statehouse meeting with Rep Teresa Fedor, sponsor of Ohio’s first anti-trafficking legislation
  • optional volunteering at doma’s winter vegetable garden
  • fighting trafficking as a college student

Tuesday, March 13th – field trip to Cincinnati THEME: PERSONAL COMPLICITY / SIN

  • Freedom Center (Underground Railroad Museum) in Cincinnati
  • consumer complicity in labor trafficking, fair trade shopping
  • how porn is connected to trafficking, fighting porn by pursuing God

Wednesday, March 14th – THEME: RESTORATION

  • panel discussion – rescuing and restoring victims of trafficking
  • demand reduction – working with “johns”
  • pilot a quick campus fundraiser – scratch cards

Thursday, March 15th – THEME: TAKING ACTION

  • summary, reflection and debrief time
  • CATCH Court
  • info about concrete opportunities on campus
  • What Will You/Your Chapter Do? (chapter-based discussion time)
  • offering for abolitionist organizations

Friday, March 16th THEME: WALKING IT OUT

  • thank you notes, clean and pack; sharing of reflections and commitments; prayer
  • 11am depart
